Inka Crops has become the first Peruvian company to export native Peruvian potato varieties on a massive scale, having purchased almost 300 tons of native potato varieties from 25 Andean agricultural cooperatives in the regions of Junín and Huancavelica. The raw material has been converted into over 83 tons of processed product, equivalent to 490,104 bags of chips exported to the United States under the name Peruvian Potato Chips. According to the Association of Exporters (ADEX), these sales have surpassed the historic total from the period 2014-2018 of 64 tons of native potatoes.
In the high Andean regions of Junín and Huancavelica, a score of native agricultural communities have harvested this record-breaking yield of native potato varieties for export. This endeavor has relied heavily on ancestral agricultural practices, from the cultivation to the harvest of these exotic varietals in some of the world´s harshest climactic conditions.
